  • Heavy rainfall and strong wind have affected South Africa, in particular Western Cape Province and the Cape Town area on 23-26 September, causing floods, mudslides, rivers overflow, and some severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 26 September, four fatalities, of which three in Cape Town City and one more in the nearby Mfuleni village. Media also report 21 injured people, approximately 2,000 evacuated families and dozens of roads closures across the affected area.
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall is still forecast over eastern Western Cape Province.

  • After the severe weather that affected South Africa (in particular Western Cape Province and the Cape Town area) on 23-26 September, causing floods, mudslides, rivers overflow and a number of severe weather-related incidents, the number of casualties has increased.
  • Media report, as of 28 September, 11 fatalities (of which at least eight across informal settlements in the Cape Town area). Media also report approximately 1,000 damaged houses, around 270 isolated people and more than 80 closed roads across the affected area.
  • Over the next 72 hours, no more rainfall is still forecast over the whole Western Cape Province.
