  • A new tropical cyclone named KONG-REY ("Leon" in the Philippines) formed over the northern Philippines Sea on 25 October and started moving west toward the Luzon Strait (between northern Philippines and southern Taiwan), strengthening. On 29 October at 6.00 UTC its centre was located over the sea approximately 760 km south-east of the Taitung city (far south-eastern Taiwan) and 450 km east of Santa Ana city (north-eastern Philippines), with maximum sustained winds of 176 km/h (typhoon).
  • On the forecast track, KONG-REY is expected to continue moving northwestward over the northern Philippine Sea and the Luzon Strait on 29-30 October, further strengthening. KONG-REY is forecast to make landfall over the Taitung city area (Taiwan) on 31 October early in the morning (UTC), with maximum sustained winds of 213 km/h (typhoon).
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over northern Luzon island (northern Philippines) and the whole Taiwan.

  • Tropical cyclone TRAMI dissipated over the South China Sea after it crossed central eastern Vietnam on 27 October and the central Philippines on 23-24 October.
  • In Vietnam, the death toll reached three people, all in Quang Binh province, and four others have been injured (one in Quang Tri and four in Quang Nam province), as reported by ADINet. The same source registered 143,424 affected people as well as almost 36,000 houses.
  • For the next 48 hours, heavy rainfall is expected across central-northern Vietnam and northern Philippines.

  • Tropical cyclone KONG-REY ("Leon" in the Philippines) is moving north-west toward central-eastern Taiwan, strengthening and passing close to the north-eastern coast of Luzon (northern Philippines). On 30 October at 7.15 UTC, its centre was located over the sea approximately 443 km north-east of Taitung city (far south-eastern Taiwan) and 253 km north-east of Santa Ana city (north-eastern Philippines), with maximum sustained winds of 190 km/h as registered by the Central Weather Administration of Taiwan (CWA).
  • On the forecast track, KONG-REY is expected to continue moving northwestward over the northern Philippine Sea and it could make landfall on 31 October across an area between Taitung and Hualien county, with maximum sustained winds of 190 km/h.
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over northern Luzon island (northern Philippines) and the whole of Taiwan where red warnings for typhoon and heavy rain are in effect.
