Typhoon Banyan is drifting north-northwest at 5 mph, and this motion is expected to continue with a slow increase in forward speed through Tuesday. The typhoon should then recurve to the northeast and accelerate into the open North Pacific Wednesday and Thursday. Maximum sustained winds remain at 105 mph. Typhoon Banyan is forecast to intensify through Tuesday morning, then begin a weakening trend Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 25 miles, and tropical storm force winds extend out up to 70 miles.
