Discussion and outlook

At 100 AM ChST...1500 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Banyan was

located near Latitude 20.3 North and Longitude 164.5 East. Tropical

Storm Banyan is moving toward the northwest at 8 mph. It is expected

to make a slight turn toward the north with little change in forward

speed over the next 24 hours.



Maximum sustained winds have increased to 70 mph. Tropical Storm

Banyan is forecast to intensify through the day possibly becoming a

typhoon this afternoon.



Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 105

miles on the eastern half and up to 60 miles on the western half.
