DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Madeline was located near latitude 17.4 North, longitude 143.1 West. Madeline is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue through Monday with a gradual turn toward the west Monday night and Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Madeline is expected to strengthen a bit tonight and Monday before beginning to weaken on Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 997 mb (29.44 inches).
