GDACS is a cooperation framework between the United Nations, the European Commission and disaster managers worldwide to improve awareness, information exchange and coordination in the first phase after major sudden-onset disasters.

Volcano activity symbols:
Volcanoes that have emitted VAAs (Volcanic Ash Advisories) in the last 6 months

or in the last week

are represented with three possible symbol sizes:

Large: VAAs emitted are ≥ 2/3 of the highest total emitted during the period for that specific volcano.
Medium: VAAs emitted are ≥ 1/3 and < 2/3 of the highest total emitted during the period for that specific volcano.
Small: VAAs emitted are < 1/3 of the highest total emitted during the period for that specific volcano.

Volcano activity symbols:
The map also indicates the locations of volcanoes that have been inactive during the last 6 months
