Heavy rainfall and strong winds caused by an atmospheric river have been affecting the western part of the United States and Canada since 19 November, causing casualties and widespread damage.
According to media reports, as of 21 November, at least two people died, of whom one in Kirkland City, King County and one in Lynnwood City, Snohomish County, in western Washington State, two people have been injured, and three have been rescued in Maple Valley, southeast of Seattle city area.
Several roads have been blocked, and more than 700,000 power outages have been recorded, including 600,000 in Washington and 21,000 in California states in the United States, and at least 140,000 in British Columbia in Canada.
Over the next 48 hours, strong winds and rainfall are still forecast over the north-western United States.
