  • Over the past few days, widespread floods triggered by heavy rainfall occurred across Northern Territory (northern-central Australia) resulting in evacuations and damage.
  • According to media reports, at least 700 people have been evacuated in Daguragu, Kalkarindji, Pigeon Hole and Palumpa in the Victoria Daly Region due to floods and the overflow of the Victoria River.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall with localized thunderstorms is forecast across the affected state particularly over the northern parts.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting northern Australia (in particular the northern Northern Territory and the neighbouring far northern Queensland) since 10 March, causing floods and the rising of rivers that have resulted in evacuations and damage.
  • Media report, as of 14 March, at least 170 evacuated people and nearly 40 damaged houses across Burketown (the most affected), Riversleigh, Gregory Downs, Doomadgee, and Normanton Towns (all of these in the far northern Queensland, near the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria). The Burketown airport was reported flooded and closed. In addition, several communities have been cut off across the Victoria Daly Region (Northern Territory).
  • Over the next 24 hours, moderate rainfall is forecast over the already affected area. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued two major flood warnings over northern Queensland.
