Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, Late December 2023About 10 buildings were destroyed or damaged when a landslide occurred on a mountainside in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture early on 31 December 2022, killing an elderly couple. The landslide measured 20 to 30 metres in height, 100 metres in width and moved about 20,000 cubic meters of sediment, local authorities said. Hiroshi Yagi, professor emeritus of geomorphology at Yamagata University, later said melted snow permeating the soil of the mountain was likely the cause.Fri 6 Jan 2023FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
