  • Tropical cyclone MONA continues east-south-east over the South Pacific Ocean with maximum sustained winds up to 46 km/h (tropical depression).
  • On 8 January at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located approximately 150 km south-west of Ona Llau Island (Lau Islands, Fiji) and 480 km west of Tongatapu Island (Tonga).
  • A tropical cyclone warning remains in effect for Ha'apai, Tongatapu and 'Eua Islands (Tonga) and a strong wind warning for the southern Lau and Lomaivti Islands (Fiji).

  • After passing east of Fiji's two main islands Viti and Vanua Levu, tropical cyclone MONA continued east-south-east in the South Pacific Ocean with maximum sustained winds up to 83 km/h (tropical storm). On 7 January at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located approximately 177 km south-east of Ongea Ndriti Island (Lau Islands, Fiji) and 170 km north-west of Ha'apai Island (Tonga).
  • MONA is forecast to weaken slightly as it moves south-west but a gale warning remains in effect for Vanau Levi (Fiji) and the islands in the Koro Sea.
  • 2 000 people are taking shelter in 40 evacuation centres in Fiji.

  • After passing east of Rotuma Island (Fiji), tropical cyclone MONA continued south-south-west, strengthening. On 4 January, at 0.00 UTC, its centre was approx. 230 km north-west of Vanua Levu Island and 200 km north of Yasawa Island, with maximum sustained winds of 93 km/h (tropical storm).
  • It is forecast to strenghthen as it moves south-south-west towards Fiji's two main islands, Vanua Levu and Viti Levu, and reach Vanua Levu on 6 January with maximum sustained winds up to 130 km/h.
  • Strong winds and heavy rainfall is expected over Yasawa, Vanua Levu and Viti Levu. A gale warning remains in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca and a tropical cyclone alert for all Fiji islands.

  • Tropical cyclone MONA formed in the South Pacific Ocean on 2 January and started moving towards the Fiji Islands. On 3 January, at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located approx. 160 km north-east of Rotuma island and 560 km north-west of Vanua Levu Island with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Over the next 48 hours, it is forecast to strenghthen and to continue south-south-west, passing 100-150 km east of Rotuma Island on 3 January. It could approach Vanua Levu Island late 5 January. MONA is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Rotuma Island on 3 and 4 January, and to Vanua Levu on 5 and 6 January.
  • Fiji's Meteorological Service has issued a gale warning for Rotuma Island while a Tropical Cyclone Alert remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands in the Lau and the Lomaiviti Group.
