  • Following the wildfires that have been burning across the western United States, in particular California, Washington and Oregon, since 17 July, the number of casualties and damage is increasing.
  • As of 28 July, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports a total of 86 wildfires that have burnt an area of approximately 647,500 ha. In Oregon State one person died, 27 people have been injured and 2,577 are still displaced. In northern California, in Kern County, two people have been injured, 2,292 people have been displaced and a state of emergency for Butte and Tehama counties has been declared. In Yakima and Ferry counties (Washington), four people have been injured and 725 have been displaced.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the fire danger forecast is from very high to very extreme in the affected areas.
