  • Heavy rainfall continued to affect southern and north-western Peru (in particular the Arequipa region and the Piura region, respectively) since 22 February, causing floods, flash floods, and overflowing rivers (mainly the Chira, Zarumilla, and Tumbes rivers) and triggering landslides that have resulted in more casualties and damage.
  • The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and media report, as of 26 February, five fatalities, of whom four were across the Arequipa region and one more in the town of Chulucanas (Morropón province, Piura region). In addition, the same sources also report nearly 11 500 affected people across the Piura and Tumbes region and 3 160 damaged houses in the Piura region.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall with locally heavy rainfall is still forecast over most of the country.
