  • A new tropical cyclone named FOURTEEN (Lincoln in Australia) is crossing the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast between Port McArthur and the Northern Territory and Queensland border. On 16 February at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located on the north-eastern coast of Northern Territory State 105 km east of Borroloola Town, with maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Tropical Cyclone FOURTEEN will continue to move inland after it crosses the coast and it is forecast to weaken during 16 February. FOURTEEN will then move west across the central Northern Territory during the 17-18 February.
  • For the next 48 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are expected across the southern Gulf of Carpentaria, the Districts of Carpentaria and Barkly (Northern Territory) and the north-western areas of Queensland close to the border with the Northern Territory. Severe weather warnings are in effect over the aforementioned areas.

  • Tropical storm LINCOLN formed over the Gulf of Carpentaria in the afternoon (UTC) on 15 February and passed over the north-eastern Northern Territory, Australia on 16 February and it dissipated on 17 February. On 19 February around 0.00 (UTC) its remnants were located inland over the eastern Kimberley region, eastern Western Australia central-western Queensland.
  • Its passage caused heavy rainfall and floods across western Queensland and Northern Territory, that have resulted in casualties and damage. Media report, as of 19 February, one fatality in the Duchess Town, western Queensland due to flash flood and more than 60 evacuated people across eastern Northern Territory and the neighbouring western Queensland.
  • The remnants of LINCOLN are forecast to continue westward over the Kimberley region and the northern Pilbara region on 20-21 February.
  • Over the next 48 hours, heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is forecast for northern Queensland, north Northern Territory and northern Western Australia.

  • After the passage of its remnants over the Kimberley region, northern Western Australia on 19-21 February, LINCOLN continued westward, strenghtening and reforming over the Indian Ocean. On 22 February at 6.00 UTC its centre was located over the Ocean approximately 410 km north of the coastal town of Port Hedland, western Pilbara region, with maximum sustained winds of 63 km/h (tropical storm).
  • LINCOLN is expected to continue south-west over the Ocean, further strenghtening and it is forecast to make landfall over Exmouth Town, northern Gascoyne region, Western Australia on 24 February very early in the morning (UTC), with maximum sustained winds of 93 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over western Pilbara and Gascoyne regions on 23-25 February. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a warning for gales over the area.

  • On 22 February, tropical storm LINCOLN continued southwestward along the coast of western Pilbara region, Western Australia. On 23 February at 6.00 UTC its centre was located over the Ocean approximately 355 km north of the coastal town of Exmounth, northern Gascoyne region, Western Australia, with maximum sustained winds of 63 km/h (tropical storm).
  • LINCOLN is expected to strenghten and to pass very close over the area of Exmounth Town in the very early morning (UTC) on 24 February, with maximum sustained winds of 83 km/h.
  • Over the next 48 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over western Pilbara and northern Gascoyne regions. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a warning for gales over this latter region.
