  • Wildfires have continued to burn across northern Florida (Levy, Putnam and Clay counties) and Georgia (Brantley, Clinch and Echols counties) since 21 April, causing an increased number of evacuated people and widespread damage.
  • According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as of 24 April, the ongoing active wildfires are four across the affected counties, and they are not fully contained. These four wildfires have burnt so far an area of approximately 16 785 hectares.
  • In Florida, FEMA reports one injured person and evacuation orders for 223 people. In Georgia, FEMA also reports evacuation orders for 940 people (as of 23 April), 83 destroyed structures and 70 damaged structures.
  • Over the next 72 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the fire danger forecast remains from moderate to very high across northern Florida and Georgia.
