ORANGE alert: The Lewotobi Volcanic eruption is unlikely to require external humanitarian assistance based on the exposed population and coping capacity.
The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report provides information about global volcanism on a weekly basis. Latest Lewotobi report has been published on 12 Mar 2025 08:46. The Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) reported that eruptive activity continued at Lewotobi Laki-laki during 5-11 March. Eruptive events were detected on 5 and 7 March, though not confirmed visually; weather clouds sometimes prevented observations. Gray ash plumes that were sometimes dense rose as high as 2 km above the summit and drifted multiple directions during 8-11 March. Incandescence at the summit was occasionally visible in webcam images posted with the reports. The Alert Level remained at 3 (on a scale of 1-4) and the public was warned to stay 5 km away from the center of Laki-laki and 6 km in a semicircle clockwise from the SW to the NE.
