  • A 7.1 M earthquake at a depth of 620 km occurred off the coast of northern Borneo island on 22 February at 16.57 UTC (23 February at 00.57 local time). The epicentre was located 55?km north-northwest of Kota?Belud city in Sabah state, Malaysian Borneo.
  • USGS?PAGER estimates that about 5.6?million people were exposed to moderate shaking.
  • According to media reports, no casualties were recorded, although the quake was felt across northern Borneo, the southern Philippines, Singapore and Brunei.
