  • An earthquake of 5.7 M at a depth of 20 km  (6.3 M as reported by the authorities of Nepal) occurred in north-western Nepal, on 3 October at 9.21 UTC (15.06 local time). The epicentre was located in Bajhang District 40 km northeast of Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 135,000 people were exposed to strong shaking.
    The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center of Nepal (SeismoNepal) recorded a foreshock of 5.3 M and at least 10 aftershocks of magnitude between 4.1 M and 5.0 M.
  • According to the Provincial Government Emergency Operations Centre, at least 27 people have been injured, 315 houses have been fully damaged and 76 collapsed in the affected areas. The event also triggered a landslide in the district of Bajhang, one person is missing and a major highway is blocked.
  • Some households have already been affected by an earthquake measuring 6.6 Richter scale in November 2022 and are still recovering. As a reminder, 1,882 houses were completely destroyed, and an additional 6,181 houses partially damaged in the affected districts.
  • Due to remote location, information reaching the provincial capital is slow.
