  • On?15?March at?10.07?UTC (06.07?p.m. local time), Kanlaon Volcano on the island of Negros (Visayas, central Philippines) erupted. The event was an explosive eruption that produced an ash plume that rose more than 5?km above the crater. Nine volcanic earthquakes were recorded, together with sulfur-dioxide (SO2) emissions of 1?085?tonnes per day.
  • According to media reports, at least 54 barangays in 11 local government units (LGUs), of which 10 in Negros Occidental and one in Negros Oriental, were affected by ashfall. As a precaution, the LGUs of Himamaylan City, Moises?Padilla, La?Castellana, and Binalbagan (all in Negros Occidental) suspended classes at all levels on 16?March.
  • Alert Level?2 remains in effect for Kanlaon Volcano, and entry into the 4-kilometre Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is prohibited.
